Are you looking for a week’s intensive Dutch course at Elementary or Intermediate level?
Then please join us in the summer of 2012 for a week of Dutch Summer School.
Summer School
Our school is based in the centre of Amsterdam just off the River Amstel. What better place to learn the Dutch language and culture than in the heart of historical Amsterdam? The classes are kept small (max. 9 students). Each program runs for 5 days. There is a minimum of 4 students per course. Please note that the course will not be viable with less than 4 students enrolled. You will be kept notified of any changes. During the last 6 years the intensive Dutch courses have filled consistently. In the event of the course not running due to lack of applicants, you will either be offered a different course or your payment will be refunded.
The idea of the intensive course is that you work in the morning classes, and process what you’ve learnt in the afternoon or evening with some homework for the next day. With the historical centre of Amsterdam literally on our doorstep, there are plenty of opportunities to put the Dutch language you have learnt into practice. An intensive week at Dutch & Such is always a really productive way of getting to know the Dutch language and culture. We also have a lot of fun with each other as a group.
Elementary
In the intensive elementary Dutch program we focus on pronunciation, word order, basic phrases, the present tense, and its various functions. We build on that by working with a variety of questionnaires in which we gather information about each other’s lives i.e. work, travel, housing, life in Amsterdam etc. For these particular speaking activities we work in pairs. We also work with visual aids such as maps, photos and collage in order to elicit basic Dutch sentences, and practice the various language structures. It’s Survival Kit Dutch. The book we use is ‘Nederlands in Gang’ (€ 45).
Pre-Intermediate
In the intensive pre-intermediate Dutch program we focus on a review of the present tense and its various functions. We then proceed with a proper grounding in the 2 forms of the past tense in Dutch. We build on that by working with various questionnaire sheets in which we gather information about each others past. For these speaking activities we work in pairs. We also work with visual aids such as photos and maps in order to produce Dutch sentences and practice the various language structures. The book we use is ‘Nederlands in Actie’ ( €45).
Intermediate
In the intensive Intermediate Dutch program we focus on consolidation of the three main tenses, and move on to more complex sentence structure. Broadening vocabulary is also part of the program. We’ll be extending vocabulary in the realms of free time, work, expressing emotions, Dutch Art and Literature. Also the rather tricky word ‘Er’ will be covered; a quintessential piece of Dutch, that simply eludes many Dutch learners. The book we will be using for this course is ‘Nederlands in Actie’ (€45).
